Dr. Osbel Almora completed his PhD (2020) at the Friedrich Alexander Universität (FAU) Erlangen-Nürnberg, Germany, and worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Universitat Jaume I of Castelló (2020-2022), and Universidad Pablo de Olavide of Seville (2020), Spain. In 2023, as a Juan de La Cierva Postdoctoral Fellow, he joined the Universitat Rovira i Virgili of Tarragona where he holds a Tenure Track Professor (Lector) position since 2025. His research activities focus on characterization and modeling of semiconductor and energy devices, including, solar cells, X-ray detectors, light emitting diodes, and pseudocapacitors.

We are looking for a highly motivated PhD candidate to join our research team at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV) in Tarragona, Spain, under the supervision of Prof. Osbel Almora. The selected candidate will work on the development, characterization, and modeling of organic solar cells.

 Research Focus

The project aims to advance the understanding of physical mechanisms governing the performance and stability of organic solar cells, combining experimental techniques with physical modeling and data analysis.

Key topics include:

  • Device fabrication and characterization
  • Electrical and optical measurements
  • Degradation and stability analysis
  • Interface engineering and defect physics
  • Data-driven modeling and simulation of device behavior

Candidate Profile

We seek a motivated and curious researcher passionate about renewable energy and materials science. Requirements include:

  • MSc degree (or equivalent) in Physics, Chemistry, Electronic Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field
  • Proficiency in English, Spanish or Catalan
  • Strong background in semiconductor physics and/or photovoltaic devices
  • Experience in laboratory work, data analysis, or device simulation
  • Good communication skills and ability to work in an international team

The International Conference on Porous Science & Technology (Netpore2025) took place on Tarragona, on September 16-18, 2025. The conference chairpersons were Antonio Correia (Phantoms Foundation, Spain) and Lluis Marsal (URV, Spain). The local organizing comitee also included Nuria Fernández, Josep Ferre,  Pilar Formentín, Osbel Almora and Elisabet Xifre from NEPHOS, Universitat Rovira i Virgili, Spain, and Akash Bachhuka from ICIQ, Spain.
